PerthCollege_25Mar11CTL's Technical Director Jim Cockram was a guest speaker at the recent University of Highlands and Islands' (UHI) Perth College inaugural Student Conference. This 2-day event, entitled "Discovering New Horizons in Aviation: Engineering, Technology, and Sustainability" was a great success and proved to be a winning formula for future events to be held by UHI's Department of Aeronautical Engineering.

Jim's talk introduced the concept of Intermittent Faults and how they can be detected. He remarked that if there was one thing he would like the audience to remember from his talk which included diagnosing aircraft faults in maintenance scenarios: "don't just change boxes and components speculatively but try and understand and determine the root cause."
Following on from the success of this presentation, CTL was invited by UHI to consider becoming more involved in lecturing to future courses and to mentoring students wishing to learn more about the phenomenon that surrounds "No Found Found" and dealing with intermittent faults. Prof Andrew Rae said that these were interesting times ahead of us all and he looked forward to expanding the curriculum to include such an important subject.
