Avalon

Copernicus Technology will be at Avalon 2017 next week, meeting partners and clients at the event and playing a significant part in the show's technical conference.  The show is the Australian equivalent of the Farnborough and Paris air shows and is held every 2 years at Avalon Airport, Geelong, Victoria.  Copernicus Technology will be represented at this year's event by our Australian representative GPCAPT[Retd] John Baker AM, and by our Business Development Director, Roo Hornby.

Avalon is the leading Aviation, Aerospace & Defence event in the Australian and Pacific Region and combines an international airshow, Aerospace & Defence exposition and an international technical conference.  Having won the award for best Health & Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS) paper  at Avalon 2015, this year John Baker will again play a notable role at Avalon 2017's Australian International Aerospace Conference.  John will present a Copernicus Technology paper at the HUMS section of the conference on Monday 27th on "Solving the Mystery of the Disappearing Symptom and Why it Benefits the Product Life Cycle", and the following day he will chair the conference sesson on HUMS Sensor Technologies.  The HUMS sessions of the conference will be held at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

"We're really excited to be attending Avalon 2017", Hornby said, "John Baker is an experienced, expert and engaging speaker who will make a huge contribution to the quality and relevance of the show's Aerospace Conference.  In addition, the 2 of us can't wait to meet up with business acquaintances old and new at the Expo, and discuss how Copernicus Technology's latest products, services and training can reduce downtime in their aviation and defence operations, or assist the development of their Maritime Patrol Aircraft capabilities.  If you want to arrange a meeting with us you can contact me via This email address is being protected from spambots. USN COMFRC Rear Adm Mike ZarkowskiIn his 2016 Christmas message the Commander of the US Navy's Fleet Readiness Centers (FRC), Rear Admiral Mike Zarkowski (pictured), thanks his team for their hard work and ingenuity and highlights several innovations that have directly benefited the Front Line.  The very first example he mentions in the video message is the use of the Intermittent Fault Detection & Isolation System (IFDIS) on maintenance of F-18 avionics boxes - namely the Generator Control Unit:

"At FRC West, Sailors teamed with artisans to interdict repairs for Generator Control Units using the Intermittent Fault Detection and Isolation System. This resulted in the GCU Time On Wing to more than double, providing what was a top ten degrader asset, to be readily available for longer periods of time in support of flight operations".   Rear Adml Mike Zarkowski USN, COMFRC

IFDIS testing of F-18 GCUs has been finding faults that are missed by conventional Automatic Test Equipment, and once detected the faults are repaired by FRC technicians.  GCUs that have been through this process have remained fitted on aircraft for over double the previous Mean Time Between Unscheduled Removal.  As this testing continues, the increased Time On Wing for GCUs is set to increase even more in the same way that it has continued to increase in the equally successful IFDIS testing of F-16 avionics.

The show floor will contain over 700 exhibiting suppliers, partners and industry bodies, so make sure you come and find us on Stand L10.  Advanced Engineering also hosts the largest Open Conference of its kind, providing expert industry intel, latest technology and innovations case studies, and supply chain opportunities delivered by OEM programme managers, and industry experts.  You can see our presentation at 1500 on 2nd Nov in the Aerospace Engineering session of the Open Conference.

Copernicus Technology presented with SCDI Research and Innovation awardCopernicus Technology Ltd, an aerospace & defence technology company based in the Moray region of Scotland has won the Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) award for Excellence in Research and Innovation in this year’s SCDI Business Excellence Awards.

Copernicus Technology has built up a wealth of expertise providing ingenious products and services that successfully reduce equipment downtime for aerospace, defence, and transport customers.  Their data analysis tools paved the way to apply their intermittent fault detection tester – the Ncompass-Voyager - to reduce the time taken for avionics repairs and their data analysis identifies problems early which improves the prioritisation of solutions. The tester has been successfully used on fleets ranging from the Spanish Eurofighter to the RAF’s Chinook and Hercules aircraft.

The SCDI trophy was collected by Copernicus Technology’s Managing Director, Giles Huby.  Giles is pictured above, flanked by comedian and host Tim Vine on the left, and the Rt Hon David Mundell MP, the UK Government SCDI awards Giles and JimScottish Secretary.  Pictured below with the trophy are Giles and Jim Cockram,  Copernicus Technology's Chairman & Technical Director.  Commenting on the Company's success, Huby said:

“As a small company we’ve worked hard to develop better analytics of maintenance data and develop the Ncompass-Voyager testing products and services so that together these technologies reduce our client’s costs and equipment downtime enormously.

SCDI awards Copernicus Technology trophy“Our expertise across a range of sectors has allowed us to create solutions that are innovative, cost effective and trusted by the growing list of applications that now benefit from it.

“I’m delighted that our work is receiving this recognition and I’m grateful for the hard work and energy that all of our team - most of whom are ex-RAF engineers and aircrew - have put in to achieving our current success and positioning us for further growth.”

Karen Peasnall, of HIE’s business growth team in Moray, added: “The Highlands and Islands region is home to some outstanding businesses that are leaders in their fields. Copernicus Technology is showing what can be done through the development of solutions that are not only helping them grow but improving the competitiveness and reducing costs for their clients.  It’s great to see a relatively new company applying innovation in this way and I am delighted at their success in the awards.”

AJAX combat vehicle - crown copyright[Published 02 Sep 2016]  Copernicus Technology will be attending DVD2016 at the Millbrook Proving Ground on 7th and 8th September and we are keen to meet with visitors and exhibitors who want to benefit from our technology solutions to reduce downtime and logistics costs.  DVD2016 showcases the equipment and technology to enable the British Army to meet future challenges and embrace the need for continuous adaptation - with the background context being the Army 2020 vision for Divisional Warfare and how that is enabled by the development, modernisation and sustainment of Army capability.

One of the 3 event themes is Reducing Logistics Need:

The technologies and innovations required to minimise the Army’s logistic need within the contemporary strategic environment.

This is exactly the kind of ingenuity and expertise that Copernicus Technology provide to Aerospace & Defence clients, like our Ncompass-Voyager test equipment which is being used on a major production contract for a UK combat vehicle.  Arrange a meeting with us at DVD2016 to find out how our maintenance data, technology and training solutions successfully Reduce Logistics Need by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots.
